Discovering Foods That Can Help You Get Pregnant

All through time, there has been wives' tale or advice about what to eat to get pregnant. This causes many want to-be mothers rushing off in every direction buying this and that, trying to boost their fertility. The truth is, you can conceive no matter what you eat. However, many swear by some fertility boosting foods.

Oysters are famously known for their aphrodisiac qualities, but what isn't well known is their ability to boost fertility. It is packed full of zinc, an important nutrient in conception. Without enough zinc in the body, the menstrual cycle disrupts and the production of quality eggs slows. Even if you are not into oysters, you can find zinc in beef, chicken, eggs, nuts, and dairy.

Citrus fruits contain Vitamin C, which is vital in increasing chances of conception. Women who take fertility medication get a boost from vitamin C and it helps improve fertility in women who have ovulation problems. For men that lack this vitamin, their sperm may clump together which decreases the chances of conception. The antioxidants in vitamin C are essential if you want to fall pregnant, especially if you are a smoker.

Yams may be a favorite at Thanksgiving for some, but they are a favorite among researchers for fertility boosts. They believe that they may contain an ovulation-stimulating substance and as evidence to that, they offer the fact that those who eat wild yams have a higher rate of twins. Although, yams bought in the store are not wild, they are still stuffed with fertility-friendly vitamins and it could not hurt to eat them when trying to conceive.

Lean chicken, beef, and turkey are all perfect sources of iron, an important nutrient that boosts fertility. Studies have shown that women with a good iron intake fall pregnant easier than women who are iron-deficient. However, as good as the iron is, too much protein can decrease fertility. Stick to three servings a week; try tofu and beans in place of animal proteins.

Berries not only taste good, they are packed with antioxidants that protect the body from cell damage and cell aging. And, that includes your eggs. Raspberries and blueberries are the best in berries, but strawberries and blackberries are good for your fertility too. Just grab a handful as a snack, make a pie, or top pancakes and waffles with them in the morning to get your fill.

With the good, always comes the bad. While there is fertility boosting foods, there is also fertility busting ones. Trans fat has another mark against it, as studies have shown that a diet high in trans fat increases the chances of ovulatory infertility in women. Caffeine, in all forms, is another big bust. Too much caffeine has been linked to lower fertility. Cut down on coffee, strong tea, and even chocolate.

Filling up on fertility boosting foods to get pregnant is a great idea because you cannot lose. They are healthy foods with a promise, and are helping you give your body the best chance possible not only to conceive, but in preparing the body to carry a baby. A balanced and nutritious diet prepregnancy is important, so it makes sense to eat fertility friendly foods.
